Thick Skin, Optimism, and Determination!

I can not think of a better job to give someone thick skin than door-to-door sales. So many people got sent home from our sales rep job out west due to lack of sales because you can tell they had given up. It was easy for me to deal with rejection. All I did was put myself in the potential customers' shoes. If someone knocked on my door blabbering about a smart home system I would tell them where they could put it. With that in mind it was impossible for any individual, no matter how rude, to break my positive attitude. 

For the first two months of that summer, I will be the first to admit that I did horribly. I sold maybe 3-4 systems in the first month and a half. People were getting sent home left right and centre, and I could not believe I was not being sent packing. My managers took me aside and told me they were confident that my positive attitude and determination will eventually lead me to success. They could not send me home because not just because my attitude would help me get better as long as I kept at it, but because it was contagious. At every morning meeting they would use me as an example as someone who does not give up. They would say look at Zane he has no sales but he comes in here fired up, ready to go, and with a smile on his face everyday, and they were right, it was extremely contagious.

Surely enough, once July hit, I was top ten in an office of 40 employees for sales. I finished the summer as the 3rd best rookie in the office. I have always believe that no matter what you do, with determination and a positive attitude, nothing can stop you. I truly believe that not only can I do whatever I put my mind too, but that anyone can, as long as they have a positive attitude and determination, and I proved myself right. Only once you let yourself get down will you fail, and that is only because you have already given up.
